EAL Announcement: Two Taiwan Databases Added to UofT Libraries' E-Resources

The East Asian Library would like to share the exciting news that we have now acquired two Taiwan databases subscribed from Airiti Library:
• TEPS (Taiwan Electronic Periodical Services) 台灣電子期刊服務網
TEPS is a full-text database of Taiwan academic journals. It at present has over 700 journal titles that are published in Taiwan and cover all disciplines.
• CETD (Chinese Electronic Theses & Dissertation Service) (Taiwan) 中文電子學位論文服務
CETD is a database specializing in aggregating theses and dissertations of Taiwan and other Asian regions.
Both databases are now fully accessible on and off campus. Try some searches and let the library know if you have any questions or comments. Thanks!

Gunsho Ruiju [群書類従] Trial (Expires December 15, 2014)

The University of Toronto Libraries currently has a trial subscription to Gunsho Ruiju Series 群書類従available through the JapanKnowledge platform. You can access it by visiting the following link:

With a total of 133 volumes (3,750 entries), the Gunsho Ruiji series is a major collection of manuscripts from ancient through to the end of the early modern periods compiled under categories covering history, literature, religion, language, customs, art, music, cultivated arts, education, morality, legal codes, politics, economy, society and many other subjects.

The collection uses the latest editions of the original compilations (Gunsho Ruiju and Zoku Gunsho Ruiju 3rd edition 5th printing, and Zoku zoku Gunsho Ruiju 3rd edition), with a full-text search function using contemporary shinjitai kanji forms. Also, text images of the original collections can be viewed in high resolution and downloadable for printing.

One way to familiarize with the contents of this collection is by taking advantage of the Advanced Search (評細(個人)検索). In the example below, the search term 豊臣秀吉(Toyotomi Hideyoshi) yielded 55 hits. On the facet on the left-hand side, note that the number of occurrences is indicated for each category.  For instance, there are 13 occurrences of “豊臣秀under “合戦部” category.

I would really appreciate if you could provide me with some feedback regarding your experiences with using this resource.  Please send your comments, questions, or concerns to

NOTE: The trial version is accessible on campus only. Apologies for the inconvenience!
